Castanhal is the largest manufacturer of jute products of the Americas. It is headquartered in Castanhal, a municipality in the State of Pará with around 200.000 inhabitants located 37,5 miles from Belém, the State capital. It has subsidiaries in Manacapuru and Parintins, in the Amazonas State, and two commercial offices in Pouso Alegre (MG) and São Paulo (SP).
Castanhal directly employs a workforce of about 1.500. Indirectly, the jute crop is the main source of income for 15.000 families of small riverside villages in the interior of the States of Pará and Amazonas.
